Re: Waterproof ink to work before watercolors

Thanks Jorge for your update.

I found another pen that is waterproof, Arline. I believe it is sold internationally as I found it in the US and UK after seeing the work of several Asian and European artists.

Congratulations on getting on with sketching and so, so well.

Our weather was so inclement no one showed up.

Re: Waterproof ink to work before watercolors

If you use fountain pens you might like Platinum Carbon ink. It appears to be the most waterproof. In disposables I haven't really found one that is "really" waterproof and lightfast, but I have been using a Rotring Tikky and its ink is extremely dense and lovely to use. It bleeds some but...

Re: Crude Measuring Tool

I like it, and I think I have an unbroken chop stick in my office/studio. Thanks for this inexpensive solution.

NEPA, Honesdale or environs

I will be in Honesdale (PA, Wayne County), my nearest urban center to sketch. If anyone is around this area, I will start out on Main Street at Sweet Eden Cafe, at around 10am (weather permitting).

Enjoy those sketches.

Re: Bags to hold your materials?

I saw a terrific bag at the Tate, and not too dear, which I might have bought if I hadn't already bought another here in the States. It seems to hold quite a great deal, and comfortably.
Hupport wrote:Hi! Just curious, where do'u purchase these bags? Is it difficult to get them somewhere in UK?

Re: Bags to hold your materials?

It sounds as if you lightened the load, but even the lighter load would be too much for me these days.

Enjoy the sketch kit and keep paring it down. :)

Re: Bags to hold your materials?

An amazingly large number of items to carry. One small caution as a former large bag, all I possessed kind of traveler, I now am suffering in my declining years with severe pain--some of which may be directly related to years of excess weight on my back, hip and knees.

Go gently on yourself. :)

Re: Pan Sizes - Cross Posted at sketching forum

It took me some time, but I seem to have the answers to my own question: The Manet can take Schmincke or Winsor & Newton half pans. The Compact seems to take Daniel Smith's pans, which may be similar to one of those above. And I am nearly over my "palette" envy as I secured a small Bij...

Thanks for sharing your solutions.

I may have solved my own query, and when I am sure of the info, I'll post again.

Best wishes for some good sketchcrawl days ahead.

Pan Sizes - Cross Posted at sketching forum

I have been experiencing watercolour palette envy and want to buy one or two new ones for portability. But I am in a quandary not only which to buy, but how interchangeable the pans are in each. Does anyone own or know whether Schmincke are interchangeable with Winsor & Newton. W&N do not se...

Tom, many thanks for posting James Gurney's kit. It gave me an opportunity to see his blog and works and both are terrific and well documented.

Best,

Re: Supply where?

It's nearly a month since this asked this question, but here are some options: Downtown, near the Village: Blicks has many sketchbooks, including Moleskine; nearby is New York Central and Utrechts; both have great supplies. Downtown, near Church Street, Fountain Pen Hospital, has a huge selection of...

Re: Bags to hold your materials?

Can you send a link to the particular Duluth you think is suited? I have been looking for a bag for other purposes, and several Duluth's looked good but too small for what I had in mind (travel).

Many thanks and happy holidays.
