I had the same experience and tried a couple different solutions. 1. I took the Pentel Color brush pen apart, dumped out the ink, and refilled it with an India ink that I knew was waterproof. At 2.5 years later, you probably are not viewing this thread anymore, but I am curious as to what the alternative brush pen that you found was. My guess is the Pentel Pocket brush pen, which is quite nice.

Robert Bateman Cover Series sketchbooks are made from recycled paper and the paper is wonderful .
