DETROIT, Michigan

Any Michiganders thinking about getting together to crawl and sketch? I'm thinking that, with the temperatures likely to be pretty low, we should find somewhere where we can be indoors. Any ideas? Maybe the zoo?

Best,

Jeff

Re: Detroit, MI

Argh. I just checked in here for the first time in a month or so and realized it's tomorrow! I wish I'd remembered so I could have planned for it and helped get something going on here. A couple times ago there was all sorts of action in Michigan. What happened? Is anyone going to do anything tomorr...

Great stuff! I really like the line quality on both of them. Very clean and elegant.

Go Michiganders!

Re: Detroit, MI

Seth, I'm planning on it! I'm going to be in Dubrovnik, the most beautiful place to do a sketchcrawl ever (if one can see through the mobs of tourists :( ). I've been traveling for the past three weeks and I've almost filled two sketchbooks, but I won't be able to post until I'm back to my scanner i...

Re: Detroit, MI

I'm out of town this time, but I'd love to do it in the future. I live in Royal Oak, so it would be a piece of cake. I think it would be interesting to go in and draw in Detroit too. All the old buildings. If we get enough people we might even have safety in numbers. ;)

Dubrovnik, Croatia?

I'm going to be in Dubrovnik, Croatia on the 15th. Will anyone else be there in the area?

Re: Mid Michigan, USA

I'll be in Europe this go around, but I live in Royal Oak and would totally make a drive for a future sketch crawl to meet up with fellow sketchers in the state. I'll keep my eyes open in the future. Have a great time with this one!

Re: Chicago

I'm going to be in Chicago that weekend, but unfortunately it's the same day as the Windy City Comic Con, which is what I'm coming in for. Maybe if it was somewhere in that area, I'd be able to meet up with whoever's doing it. I'd love to get in some Chicago sketching!

Re: Salt Lake City, UT [RESULTS}

I didn't see anyone else at the cemetery, so if anyone came, I missed you. I enjoyed myself though. I should do this more often. I need to sketch more and I always enjoy it when I do, but I'm kinda lazy about it. Boo to lazy, I say. Here are two pictures from the cemetery: http://img.photobucket.com...

Re: Salt Lake City, UT

So here's the lowdown, in case anyone from Salt Lake happens to check here: we're meeting at 10:00 by the Avenues cemetery. For ease of meeting up, the Southwest corner (the corner of 4th Ave and M or N, I think) ... by the Memorial place. We'll be drawing there for a little while, for stragglers, a...

Salt Lake City, UT [RESULTS}

Any other Salt Lakers out there? I'm trying to drum up a handful of people, but I don't yet know where we'll meet. I guess it will depend on the weather a little, though it looks to be nice and sunny, so we could probably go anywhere. More information forthcoming.

Andy, your shadows/dark areas are so great! I've never seen anyone do shadows quite like that: the long wavy lines that aren't trying to be straight and mechanical. The lines announce themselves in a sense. The lines aren't trying to disappear into a dark mass, they are insisting upon their own text...

I love the addition of the background on that last one. It really brings out the negative space. I like how you pushed the drawing to the edges ... it places an emphasis upon the composition, and not just the object. It treats the sketch as a piece, not just a doodle.

Great stuff!

Salt Lake City Results

Hi everyone! This is my first post and also my first sketch crawl. Four of us participated; none of us was able to commit to an entire day, so we did a sort of mini-sketchcrawl from 2-7:30 in the evening. Of course, the last hour was taken up with eating and drinking at a pub (isn't that how all goo...
