Re: Houston, Texas

I think that time is good. I have a prior early morning commitment. It will be 10-10:30 before I make it there. I will look for all of you round and about.

Re: Houston, Texas

I will go with whatever the group decides. I like both those choices Diandra. I'm trying to draw more people in their environment. And you're right, there's no place from the other side of the street on 19th to get the perspective and sit. (in my sketch for the Urban Texas sketchers blog http://urba...

Re: Houston, Texas

Here are some ideas Diandra and I were emailing about: George R Brown has two private shows going on that weekend, so that's out. The newly renovated Julia Ideson Building...good for architecture, but sparse for people even on Saturdays. Lovely though... The International Gem and Mineral Show is at ...

Re: Houston, Texas

OK Houston crawlers...I just realized that this crawl is only two weekends away. YIKES! Time to be thinking about where we all want to crawl. I'm predicting it will need to be an indoor venue unless we have a freak spell of 70 degree weather. So last year was the Museum of Natural Science. Been ther...

Re: Houston, Texas

This will totally depend on weather, Jon. A balmy day of 75 will mean an outdoor crawl. A colder day will bring us indoors. Last year we did the Museum of Natural Science. I have always wanted to pick a really lively indoor venue for the January crawl. Be thinking of likely places...even something i...

So glad everyone posted some sketches here. Looking forward to our next crawl, but let's think about how we can make this a regular outing!

Re: HOUSTON, TEXAS-Results

Still, Tomas, I love that sketch. It captures a little bit of everything.
And yes, to have nine people show up is a record for us. Hopefully we can build on that and have a real active group.

HOUSTON, TEXAS-Results

Nine people showed up to sketch today at Discovery Green. We spent a long time sketching the yoga class and then sketched people and the model boaters and all the lovely things going on in the park. The group was very enthusiastic and we had a great time. Tomas and Judith will add photos of our grou...

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS-37th International Crawl

Hoping the number of views here means that the word has gotten out in Houston. Looking forward to seeing people on Saturday at Discovery Green.
People are free to come and go as they need to. I know that the beautiful weather means that folks have a lot going on. See you then!

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS-37th International Crawl

Just a heads up for people heading downtown from the suburbs. That weekend is also the weekend of the Bayou City Art Festival. So, Mckinney and Allen pkwy exits from 45 will be closed. Cut over on 10 and take Mckee Street exit..that will bring you into downtown near the stadium.... Or take 59 and ex...

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS-37th International Crawl

Ok so lets set the meetup place as the lawn next to the Lakehouse restaurant in Discovery Green Park any time between 9 and 10 on the 13th of October.
If Tomas needs to meet us, we can choose a lunch spot to meet him depending on when he finishes his run.

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS-37th International Crawl

I've done a lot of library sketches lately, but that is a great sketch location. It was recently renovated and the inside is stunning. I suggested Discovery Green because I'm pushing myself to draw more people. There's always a lot going on there on Saturday morning. If there's a Zumba class or some...

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS-37th International Crawl

I've been thinking about good places to sketch and it occurred to me that the small group that has been going to previous crawls has never done a downtown crawl. We could start at Discovery Green, which is great for people and things going on, and move to the trains on Main Street or the different b...

Re: HOUSTON ,TEXAS

Met some new friends today who may be joining us on the 13th. Hoping we get a real crowd. It would be nice to have an active group in Houston between crawls! For anyone who has seen our local announcements and is checking in here for the meet-up time and place: We will decide that closer to the date...
