The best experience I had drawing in public was at the zoo. It was summer time and a free admission day, so all the local schools were taking the students there. Crowds of kids gawking at animals. It was really cool to see them inspired while my friend and I were drawing the animals.

The brush pen is, well, a pen with a brush tip. That eliminates the whole ink jar and brush setup. I'd also recommend the Pigma Micron Brush pen if you like the brush line. Its ink is waterproof. The only thing is that I find the felt brush tip wears easily and is great for feathering inking, but no...

sumi brush pen

I've been using a disposable sumi brush pen. Great for gesture drawings. It's not water proof, so mixing with watercolors is tricky. But, for ink wash drawings - great!
