I suppose if you work on a drawing that you base on a photo, you can always take breaks and come back to it later ( that would be different if you were actually working on a portrait of a model) … and then, every artist has a different passion, if portrait drawing is your thing, then I guess it doesn’t matter to you how much time or effort it requires.
