Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Post by John »

Aloha,
Please include Honolulu for June 21st.

We are also pleased to announce, Sketchcrawl in Honolulu has a special invitation on June 7th.
The following is from the press release from the Honolulu Culture and Arts District:

AHA and PAPOH Plein Air Painters Join SketchCrawl Participants to
Create an Improv Art Endeavor in Downtown/Chinatown’s Arts District

Event Kickoff – (8:30 Saturday, June 7 – 1160 Smith Street, across from Tadpole Studio)

(Honolulu, Hawaii, May 27, 2008) – Historic districts have always attracted artists. Honolulu’s Chinatown is no exception - the vignettes of everyday life, the colors and fleeting scenes make for exciting works of art. On Saturday June 7, the Association of Hawaii Artists (AHA), the oldest art organization in Hawaii, will host an artistic joint venture among several groups including the local SketchCrawl community, the Maui-based Plein Air Painters of Hawaii (PAPOH) and AHA members. That morning artists will fan out across Chinatown, sketch, paint and draw. At 4:00 they will reconvene outside Murphy’s Bar & Grill on Merchant Street, exhibit their creations and share their stories, interpretations and experiences of the day.

The Chinatown event is the first time these groups have teamed up. Priscilla Hall, immediate past president for two years of the Association of Hawaii Artists elaborates:

The AHA is the host to the three day event and we are looking forward to other organizations such as SketchCrawl and PAPOH joining us. I particularly like SketchCrawl and publicizing the group because artists, no matter how advanced, always benefit by going back to the basics--sketching and drawing. Plein Air painters will reach first for drawing paper and pencil to lay out a design and work out composition and values.

Ms. Hall invites all artists, amateurs and professionals, to make the trek to Chinatown on June 7. It’s a great opportunity to visit the area, meet new friends and experience the transformation and revitalization of the neighborhood. So bring your drawing pad, your sketch pads, your pencils, pens and brushes and join in on the day’s fun!
