24th Street sounds perfect and it's near BART which is great since I'm coming from the East Bay.

It seems like you guys maybe have already settled on 24th Street. But if you're still thinking about places to meet and do a SketchCrawl this might be an idea to consider: The California Academy of Sciences. It just re-opened in a totally new building complex and it looks like a FANTASTIC place. Here's the URL for their website: http://www.calacademy.org/ This happened today I think, and they've been showing a preview on TV. It looks like a very interesting place with a lot of variety.

oooooh, I just saw the ticket prices. $25 per adult and $20 for students with ID. So maybe not such a good idea.

They do have FREE days though, every third Wednesday in each month. So October the 15th is a free day. I think I'll go.
Anyone free on Oct 15th? Wanna SketchCrawl the CAL ACAD of Sciences? They feed the penguins at 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM.

So maybe it's time for a poll ?
Or should we just say the mission ?

I don't mind sticking to the suggested 24th street idea ... nice and gritty ...
would love to go to the Academy of art and sciences sometime too ... maybe at a later date.

thoughts?

lots of great subject matter, coffee houses and food available on 24th. I can wait to go draw at the acadamy of science but it's going to be quiet crowed there for awhile and might be a better solo place.

I'm OK with 24th Street.
Never been, so it's all new to me.
I'm glad to take a recommendation.
I'll still try 10/15
at the CAL ACAD of SCI.
It's free you know,
so --what the hey.

I actually attempted to check out the Academy of Science Saturday morning.
I arrived at 7:30am and ended up being 20,000th in line. I decided to jump
out of line when a worker mentioned that they will send in waves of 4000
visitors at a time, throughout the day.

So I opted to just enjoy the festivities, vendors, and live musice. A co-work
attempted to jump in line at 11am and they stopped accepting visitor at 3:00pm.
Later that day, I ran into a family that actually made it into the Museum. When
I asked them how it was? They just replied..."Too many people!".

I'm pretty sure this museum will continue to be packed up until late 2009....
it would probably we difficult to sketch in there....but I'll definitely give
it a chance another weekend or on the Free Wednesday (each month).

So now I'm looking forward to the 24th Street Crawl instead :D

Yeah, I agree with Jana above!
24th street sounds excellent; I've never been down that way before, but I'll be traveling via bart so it's better there than anywhere else. I can just walk down to the meeting area and then retrace my steps on the way back

Good advice Gerald.
I'm glad you checked it out.
I'd have had to pay parking and gas and tolls
only to find out the same.
So thanks.

I guess that's puts us in favor of 24th street?
Like I said, I'll be happy to take the recommendation.

Hey there-

I just stumbled onto this and really wanna take part. I even have some friends that are up for it as well. Just curious as to how much has been planned for the crawl, like where to start on 24th and what time and such. Let me know!

i'm well looking forward to it. I like the mission, and always wanted to go to this part of it, espec to draw. October is my favourite month. So, what time should it begin and end? I'm likely to be a bit late as coming from davis but i'll catch up. Look forward to meeting some other sketchers. Any ideas for the end-point? somewhere with flat tables and beer and hot drinks? I don't know the area too well so cannae suggest nowt...

I think someone suggested Phil'z Coffee as an end point. That location is somewhat ideal as it can hold a lot of people, the coffee is good, and it has an artsy vibe. :-)

Re: Mission
Looks like parking will be challenging in that part of the city? I was thinking to park somewhere along Embarcadero and just take bart to the location, as usual any parking tips are appreciated. I have never been to that part of San Francisco either.
Found this old article 2005 http://www.sfgate.com/neighborhoods/sf/ ... 4thstreet/ who knows how much of that information is already outdated.

Re: Academy of Sciences
I think Academy of Sciences for a future Sketchcrawl would be great. Thanks for the info on the free days and the report on how busy they were. It has been many years since I last visited that place, already looking forward to it ;)

By the way, I came across this page: http://www.bart.gov/schedules/mobile/index.aspx It may be of use to any of you with smart phones.

Thought I'd also mention, Oct 24th, the Asian art museum is opening their next show - Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum...
Possibly some interesting drawing subjects there...plus the civic center right outside the front door for some architecture as well...

I think we should meet at 11 am ... but I am not positive of where ... we've met before at Dolores Park ... but that's a few blocks away from 24th.

Should we start it at Philz Coffee as well as end it there?
Any other suggestions?

By the way, Papalote has great fish tacos ... for lunch ... though it's tiny place, we'd totally overrun it ...
