We could always congregate near Dynamo Doughnuts, on 24th between Hampshire and York, and move on from there. Get ourselves motivated with something sweet and some coffee. Can't quite come up with a good ending spot though. 11 does seem like a decent starting time, giving those outside of the city time to commute...

I'm glad you checked it out.
I'd have had to pay parking and gas and tolls
only to find out the same.
So thanks.

I guess that's puts us in favor of 24th street?
Like I said, I'll be happy to take the recommendation.
Actually that sounded very interesting and I did ask for the day off 10/15, but upon reading this info we decided to visit the DeYoung Museum instead - we were told upon driving into the parking lot that there was a 2.5hr wait to get into the Academy of Science.

No sketching was done that day at the DeYoung Museum, although I did carry the bag around to remind me, there is way too much to see at that museum, and it had been many years since we last visited.

I think the Legion of Honor or Asian museum would be interesting as well (have not visited either of those two).

The Asian Art Museum is a great place to sketch.
First Sunday of every month is FREE! thanks to Target.

Also: The National Gallery of Art in WDC originated the Afghan Exhibition.
On their website they have a great set of interactive features on the show.

For 24th Street crawl I think meeting at the corner of 24th and Portrero is a good beginning. 11am and I'm ready to draw!!

If you're driving and want parking and you don't have to worry about feeding meters there's a garage just to the east of 24th/Portrero and rates aren't bad ($1.25 0-1 hours, $2.50 1-2, $3.75 2-3, $4.50 3-4, $6 5-6, $7.50 6-7).

I'm going to be brave and get my java on the southeast corner at Jerry's Java (next to Jerry's Tattoo's), I'm into trying things off the beaten path on this trip!!!
http://www.yelp.com/biz/jerrys-java-san-francisco

For other coffee houses (starting at Portrero and going east on 24th St):
- St Francis Fountain, 2801 24th St/York http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/6/90916/res ... -Francisco
- Phil'z (of course) 3101 24th St./Folsom, http://www.yelp.com/biz/philz-coffee-san-francisco
- L's Cafe, 2871 24th St. after Bryant, http://www.yelp.com/biz/ls-caffe-san-francisco
- Sugar Lump across the street, 2862 24th St., http://www.sugarlumpcoffeelounge.com/
-Sundance Coffee at the corner of 24th St/Harrison, http://www.sundancecoffeesf.com/
- Cafe La Boheme, 3318 24th St, just after Mission, http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-la-boheme-san-francisco
- Cafe Venice across the street, 3325 24th St, http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-venice-san-francisco

Food choices are off the hook all down 24th Street!!! Fresh fruits/veggies at stands everywhere, fresh meat stores, all kinds of Mexican restaurants and stands everywhere you look. You can bring your laundry and do it one of the multiple mats, check out the 99cent stores or visit the botanicas (places to find lucky candles and amulets). You can buy a cool Mexican wrestling mask for your Halloween costume or visit Galeria de la Raza, 2857 24th St., http://www.galeriadelaraza.org/index.html. They might have a Dia De Los Muertos exhibition up.

I would suggest meeting up at the end of the day at Muddy's at 1304 Valencia just south of 24th Street (around 4pm??)

It's got a big space, lots of tables and chairs. I know, I know, grungy but meets our needs and coffee is good.

Looking forward to this! Hoping for sunny Mission weather and a big crowd. See you there.......

enrico wrote:I think we should meet at 11 am ... but I am not positive of where ... we've met before at Dolores Park ... but that's a few blocks away from 24th.

Should we start it at Philz Coffee as well as end it there?
Any other suggestions?

By the way, Papalote has great fish tacos ... for lunch ... though it's tiny place, we'd totally overrun it ...

Yo e, fish tacos for lunch at Papalote sound good

we have room for all people ... old and new ... :)
And sure thing, I'll put you down for a copy Marcelle.

Since I don't see much feedback on the meeting place, let's just make the executive decision!

Meeting at 11am at QUETAL on Guerrero, between 22nd and 23rd ... we can then go from there to explore 24th street and wherever else we want to go around the mission ... cool ???

Hey All!

I'm In for the Yerba Buena Gardens and Embarcadero/Marketplace... The Bart fare is cheaper the sooner you get off the train too! ;-) I think there's tons of people, etc to draw and these places and there enough room for everyone to sit/eat and there's a lot of different type of food all in one place. 'Cuz the missions kind of sketch...and not it the good way. Yerba Buena Gardens and Embarcadero/Marketplace is at least a guaranteed populated area and there's a bit more security thanks to the tourist types. I know everywhere in SF's not all peaches and cream including YB & Marketplace but if like to play it safe. We still have time to make the decision, right? Maybe we can split the crawls? Some in YB other in Mission?

Can't wait for this crawl. The Mission's the best place to draw.
