My fav picks are North Beach and Castro.

Honestly though I'm up for anything because I'm new to San Francisco, and new to sketchcrawl so I'm looking forward to whatever :D

Chinatown is fine with me. I think it's more satisfying to keep the geography smaller, so that when we share our drawings, we can see how others viewed the same or similar topic.

I think the Academy of Sciences is a great spot to sketch, too. I've sketched there many times, but I'm a member. It's $25 per person normally, so I think in this economy it's asking a lot of people. [Just a plug though, an individual membership is $99 and it's good for 2 people, so if you visit at least twice in the year, it's paid for.]

The Bridge is a good choice for later in the year (October), when the weather is better. Right now, it's VERY windy. The Presidio is a good choice, too. Especially because the Lucas Arts' Starbucks is a comfortable place to end up on a weekend.

But I have another suggestion for later in the year, when the weather is good: Sausalito. Aside from trekking to the residences on the hills, it's a pleasurable place to walk. The weather is usually good, there's great views, lots of people, places to eat and drink, etc. And just a short drive away, there's the new Inn at Cavallo Point which used to be known only as the Coast Guard Station at Ft. Baker, but now it's a choice destination. The food is pricey, but there's a good bar there called Farley's, named after the late cartoonist, Phil Frank's character, Farley. The place has a beautiful public porch lined with rocking chairs and an eye-popping view of SF and the Golden Gate. The architecture is interesting - kind of mission colonial/arts & crafts and there's good parking (no public transportation though, the closest you can get is the GG Transit bus to Sausalito, getting off at the top of Alexander Avenue). And it's a hot spot for bicycles and the people who ride them.

New to this whole site - but I was born and raised in SF and I think just about anywhere in SF can be fun and interesting to sketch at!

Hello All,

This will be my first SketchCrawl adventure - I'm looking forward to it! How do we find out the chosen destination, time and all the rest?

This should be great. See you then.

Can someone give a total newcomer some info about when people meet (after it is decided where to meet, of course) and what happens during the sketchCrawl, and how long it lasts? And, if there are artists in the East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley) area who are doing the day on this side, I would like that a lot. Thanks!

we are gonna be meeting at 11am ... draw around ... usually meet around 5pm for some sketchbook sharing! :)

if Chinatown wins ... it seems it might ... we'll meet at the park right above the parking lot on kearny street ... it's called Portsmouth Square.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=kearny+st ... 7&t=h&z=18

great place to draw and meet ! :)
one of the reasons we love to go back to Chinatown pretty often ...
:)

hope this helps

ciao

Although Japan Town is one of my favorite parts of San Francisco, I'd love to do some art of Chinatown! It's very colorful there and there are a lot of interesting things that would be very fun to do for a Sketchcrawl.
