Hi all,

This was my first sketch crawl, and I can't wait to do a few more. I didn't start until mid-afternoon, so my selection is a little more limited.

I started at the Radcliffe Camera, and experimented with a new tool -- a Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen. These contain India ink, and present it in the form of a marker pen with a brush-style nib. Took me a little while to get used to it (and to get used to sketching in public -- something I hadn't done since high school). Here are some of my sketches from around the cafe at the Radcliffe:

Image

We moved on to the King's Arms pub for a drink, which was a great venue for further exploring my new artist pen, this time concentrating on portraits (both of fellow artists and other patrons):

Later, we moved onto the Oxford University Natural History Museum, which was brilliant. Loads of dinosaur fossils that were excavated from in and around Oxford. (It was so much fun that I actually spent Easter Monday there again, just checking out the fossils!) This time, I augmented the artist pen with a set of water soluble colours markers, Tombo ABT markers, watered down with a Pentel water pen. Again, this was new territory for me, but I reallt enjoyed the results:

We compared sketches at Border's Starbucks, then went our separate ways. A number of us ended up at the Gardener's Arms in Jericho, where we chatted and sketched for a couple of hours more. I took the opportunity to capture Allen and Christina, two of my fellow Sketch Crawlers:

All-in-all, a fun day!

Allen - These are wonderful ink drawings!! The ones of Bonn Square and the Museum are so detailed. Great job!

Adam - Impressive colection of sketches! You got so many done...and done well. I think the city sketches are my favorite.

JP - Your portraits are excellent! Looks like you had a lot of success with the new media you used. Wonderful job on the dinosaur!
