MUNICH/ Germany [RESULTS]

Post by migi »

Today we - 5 sketchers - met at Nymphenburg Palace. The weather was rainy and cold, so we went to the Marstallmuseum, a nice collection of historical carriages and sleighs.

This are my results:

Many of the carriages and sleighs were decorated with figures, this one is from a sleigh:

My fellow sketchers absorbed in drawing:

Part from a courtly merry go round:

Putti on a hunting sleigh:

I left after we had lunch in a French restaurant, but some of us wanted to go to the Museum of Nymphenburg Porcelain afterwards.

I’m looking forward to see all of your drawings again, and those from the Porcelain Museum. :)

Before lunch I drew a life-size gold plated figurehead of a royal sleigh, an ornamental mythical fish, and a very quick sketch of a complete carriage.

The museum also contains a porcelain collection, and after lunch I drew several porcelain birds.

All my drawings are on DIN A4 size paper.

That carriage reminds me of one we saw in a museum in Munich, can't remember the name, but it was big - and the carriage had once belonged to the Crazy King...Ludwig? The one who built the castle out at Neuchwenstein (spelling close?).
You are so lucky to live in a place where there are such beautiful, and so very sketchable items Everywhere to draw!! Thanks for bringing my memories of Munchen back into focus!!

Thanks for your comments, shawn and grayshoe.

grayshoe - It must have been this carriage that you saw in this museum.
You are right about the king, Ludwig II (or "Mad Ludwig", as he is called in English), and you remember the name of the castle almost perfectly - Neuschwanstein.

It is nice to learn that a drawing rings a bell with someone who has visited the place.
