Brighton, UK [RESULTS]

Post by mockduck »

Yay for Brighton Sketchcrawl! We soldiered on through sprinklings of rain (though the weather was mostly gratifyingly sunny for the time of year). Thanks to everyone who came along, first-timers and old hands. What a lovely bunch of people. Next time I will try to relax more and stress out less. I think my stress carried through into my sketches, none of which was particularly loose. But never mind, I made some excellent new friends.

This was certainly our biggest Sketchcrawl to date - organising beforehand with the map seemed to really pay off. We were unlucky with one of the venues though - as we stepped into the coffee shop at the appointed time, a stand up comedy act was just beginning! I think this put a few people off walking through the shop and into the garden area.

Finishing off in the pub worked out great: a nice beer, and the chance to look down at the people drinking outdoors, and draw them without being spotted... we hoped.

The large cat in Brighton museum: you can post a donation into its tum, and hear it purr.

The yard at the cafe Marwood. I wasn't really concentrating, but I don't mind because with the other half of my brain I was making some really good new friends :)

Image
The fountain on the Old Steine. The exuberant planting of the summer (banana trees, no less) has all been cleared away, so I was afraid it'd not be worth drawing, but there are many attractive buildings all around that make good subjects, not to mention a coffee shop, people walking dogs, buses and so on.

Louise greets Linda, whose seafront studio we congregated at, as our 4th stop of the day.

Hm, there's one more picture to come but I haven't photographed it yet.

Brighton Sketchcrawl was great fun - lovely bunch of people and lots of subjects to draw. What more can you ask for? You can see my drawings on my Flickr account here:

Nice results Mockduck!
I specially like the cat and the sea front studio view.
It s true that sometimes the SketchCrawls are the worst days to draw, you get distracted meeting and chatting with the rest of crawlers. However the day pays off nevertheless.

Cheers!
