The garden is hosting a music festival on the same day. It wasn't on the calendar when I checked before, but it's there now. I think we can still go, but the cost is higher:

Here's the news from the garden about Saturday:
"The Garden opens from 10:30am and Festival will start from 11:00am.
We are only open for the festival guests on April 16 and not available for general admission."
What do you guys wants to do?

I'm confused.....I noticed that there is that music and art festival happening on the 16th and that admission is $15 instead of $5. But the last line that mentions only open for guests I don't understand. I didn't read anything about the general public being excluded on their website. Perhaps what someone was trying to say was that you just can't get the regular general admission price that day(?).
It is supposed to be in the low 90's that day, too.
What other instant option do we have? There is the Musical Instrument Museum off the 101 and just north of Tatum. It's a fantastic, huge place, it is inside where it is cool, and costs about the same as the festival price at the Japanese Garden.

I think they just mean you have to pay the higher price.
My group will probably still have to go there because I've been advertising it to other people. The instrument museum could be really good for the next one though because that'll definitely have to be indoors!

Okay. I'm going to pass on this one. I'll contribute something from around my yard this time. At $15 I'd want to spend some time at the Japanese Gardens, but not in the heat and possible crowds.
See you next time. If you love music, world music even better, you will love the MIM if we go there next time. It's a real cultural experience and overabundant in things to draw.

I was just thinking of something regarding potential sudden plan changes. Don't your members have access to the internet and to the official SketchCrawl site? I know that you have an independent group not associated with this SketchCrawl activity, but as far as the SketchCrawl is concerned should they not participate as individual members? It makes for more flexibility of choice if one person isn't speaking for many others who,in fact, are not even aware of the conversation that goes on on this SketchCrawl site. Even though it is ideal for everyone to be participating in the same event, when need be, there can be times when the choice could be split. Craig.....you could make the banner with two events on it....correct?

I'm not thrilled about the potential crowds either. If you guys want a different location just let me know and I'll pass the word. I do invite everyone to this forum, but so far they haven't participated much. I think most people just want to be told when and where, and then they decide if they'll go or not.

Sorry everyone - dropped out of the thread for a while!
I am flexible - I always consider the botanical garden a safe fallback, we could do downtown phoenix or even a hiling trail (this will probably be the last outdoor crawl for a while).

I'll vote for either the Botanical Garden or the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch (http://www.riparianinstitute.org/about.cfm). The last time I was there it was really nice, and I'm pretty sure it's still free. There are shade trees.

The Riparian Preserve is quite far for me but I will go along if that is where everyone is going, otherwise the Botanical Garden
