Phoenix, AZ USA - [Results]

Post by crgcas »

Well we just were'nt meant to have a big sketch day today! Our plans to go to the Japanese Friendship Garden (appropriate for the event today) were overturned by a high enrtrance fee and a crowded music festival. Our good fallback, the Botanical Garden closed at noon. We all made the best of it though and each got a sketch or two in. There were five of us at the garden and now we are dispersing to crawl home and add a few more along the way. Here are mine so far:

I had a great time, even though it was shorter than we expected. Here's my "alien snail cactus" painting from the garden, plus another attempt at a Japanese style tree that I did at home this afternoon. I'm still working on the tree technique.

Annie - another great tree - all of your sketches were awesome!

Here are a few pix from today...

Once home I thought I would continue sketching - it was in the upper 90s so sitting at the table and sketching a few from photo reference seemed less glamorous but more relaxing..

Finally decided to do the bull frog in the Desert Botanical Garden pond. He posed so nicely for passers by.

crgcas: Beautiful pictures and subtle colours, great photos, thanks.
ChaosInColor: Appealing version of a tree and uncharted cactus or snail or alien (nice idea  ).

Great photos Craig, I'm going to save the one of John. :-) Seeing you do watercolors at Sketchcrawl is one of the reasons I started trying it out, you do such nice things with it!

Mossgate, I can't see the photo, the page says it's private. Is it just me?

If you want to email me the photo I'll store it on my site so we can link to it here.

Annie: Thanks - I can email you the fullsize version of John! I love the new tree - it was awesome seeing all of the non-sketchcrawl stuff in your sketchbook!!

crgcas: Thanks!

Hi Guys - thanks for the invite - seems like forever since I picked up the sletchy doodle pencils :problem: so here's my humble attempts

Cacti blooming at the entrance to the Garden where I thought I was first to arrive but actually turned out to be last one there

Image

You had to be there to see the size of the cacti
Image

Beautiful cactus about to bloom - wish I could have done it justice
Image

Actually made my own brush out of a yucca plant - one of the exhiibits recommend you try that - interesting exercise
Image

Quick two minutes of the cat trying to escape the heat when we got home
