Scott..
I like the marker style sketches you do very much. I'll have to get back to sketching with markers the way I use to in 2003. Back then I thought I was being smart using Canson, Montevale watercolour sketchbooks. I did not know back then that people except me used these
See samples http://cyberdave1.blogspot.com/search?u ... -results=4
I use to go down to the beach and seawall here and do quick people sketches with my sharpie, but I have not done much that way in a while.
Anyway, I was looking for some of the Tombow ABT's here locally to try them out, but can't find them. The closest thing available appears to be Copic markers, but they are not quite the same. Well at least they don't appear to be.
I'll just have to have a good look next time I am at the local art supply store here.
Thanks for adding the sketch of the evening entertainment. I don't think I have seen or heard slit-drums.
Brian..
Interesting the way you sketch with the ballpoint. It is a red ballpoint- right? Your sketches are great. That kid certainly looks bored
I don't know if I could sketch in bright red though.. I tried ball point and it does not feel right when I sketch. I guess it is whatever you feel comfortable using.
It's all about experimenting though.
Paul..
Nice to see you posting. I like the waterfront building with the rocks out front. I am always a sucker for sketched bicycles (something about the mechanics and the wheels I suppose).
Jackie... nice sketch of the wind whip and area. I am actually recognizing the angles and where these places are now in New Plymouth The smokestack at Port Taranaki and the big hill give it away.
Cheers

Re: New Plymouth New Zealand [RESULTS] under the mountain
Many thanks Joan, merci beacoup Tati for your encouragement for our group.
CyberDave, nicely laid out blog. Well done. Your contour drawings are effective.
The hill, is a steep volcanic rock called Paritutu which you can readily climb for a good view. The chimney is from a natural gas-fired power station, near the port.
Re the markers, Tombows are water-soluble emulating water colours more, as you will know copics are solvent based.
At the risk of sounding slightly commercial, I'm doing a some sketching blogs for Tombow in Europe to help raise money for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. I've been using them for at least a dozen years as my main method of drawing for fun. Not sure how good your German is (I need Google Translate) but I've jotted down a few tips & techniques, some of which I learnt via trial and error.

Another on 'who rules the roost?' next month.
You can get them very reasonably through Amazon. It is more expensive buying one by one like I used to. To help you on your next Trivial Pursuits evening, Tombow is the Japanese word for 'Dragon Fly'. They are made by the 1913 Tombow Pencil Co.
The slit drums are used a lot in the Pacific Islands, Rarotonga, Solomons etc - also Africa. I have just finished carving one. In Melanesia they have full height ones as logs stuck in the ground vertically with carvings. They sound fabulous.

Re: New Plymouth New Zealand [RESULTS] under the mountain
Thanks everyone. I'm glad you are enjoying our sketches.
We had so much fun last weekend it has been decided to go back to Port Taranaki to sketch some more this afternoon!
Thanks Dave for your comments.
Here is a picture of the Windwand I did some time ago, looking accross from Puke Ariki Landing.
