Nashville, Tennessee

Post by sketchersteve »

Hi Sketchers,
Can anyone think of a good place to meet and draw that
can be reached by bus?

And an alternative location for sketching in case of
very cold weather?

sketchersteve..

It's been some time since I have been to Nashville, but what about the Ryman Auditorium. I understand it is on a few downtown bus routes (eg Music City Circuit). There are a few restaurants nearby as well. Not sure about the locations that would keep you warm in cold weather and still be able to draw the building.

Alternative.. if you can get out to the Grand Ole Opry Hotel and Convention Centre; how about inside in the courtyard. Isn't there a revolving restaurant inside that you can see from the inner court. Should be lots of tourists and visitors to sketch there. :-) I think the courtyard is called "the Cascades Atrium". There is also the "Garden Conservatory" and the "Delta Atrium". Check it out on the internet. There was a flood in 2010 but the hotel re-opened in November. This might be a good place to go and would be nice and warm. I have not been since the mid-nineties so may be out of date.

Just some suggestions.
Cheers

Thanks, CyberDave!
Those are wonderful ideas. I think Opryland would be the best choice,
because there is so much happening and it's nice and warm.

The #34 Opry Mills bus runs eleven times a day weekdays, weekends, and
holidays. It takes about a half hour for the express bus and 50-60 minutes
for the local from the Downtown Terminal to the Gaylord Opryland Resort stop:

If anyone knows a convenient place where sketchers
can find one another without getting lost, please reply...

My main concern is that the place is HUGE! There are many different areas,
and it can be very easy to get lost.

Please download and study their “Hotelmap” before you come.
It’s on their site, listed under “Directions & Transportation” on the left:
http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-opryland/

I’ll wear my Nashville State Community College cap and be
at the Conservatory cafe at 10 am in the “Garden Conservatory.”
If there’s no table available, I’ll try to stay in the Garden Conservatory
area for a while.

If you come and we can’t find each other, please just find a nice spot to
sit and draw anywhere you like, and upload what you draw to this forum.
In any case, it will be a great adventure.

Some people tell me that parking at Opryland Hotel and
Convention Center is very expensive.

They say that, even though it's a fairly long walk, they park
at the nearby mall and walk over to Opryland Hotels.

If you take the bus, please be aware that the express and
local buses take different routes.
