Waterproof ink to work before watercolors

Post by russochief »

Hello everyone.

I like to first make my sketches with pencil, then with ink pens, and only then the watercolours.
I’m using rotring xonox graphic pigment ink pen of various sizes, but, sometimes, the ink seems not really waterproof when i start my watercolours.

Can someone advise me on a really lightfast and waterproof black ink pen for sketching, that works impeccable with watercolours?

Cheers

If you use fountain pens you might like Platinum Carbon ink. It appears to be the most waterproof. In disposables I haven't really found one that is "really" waterproof and lightfast, but I have been using a Rotring Tikky and its ink is extremely dense and lovely to use. It bleeds some but not as much as some others I've tried.

Hello Zoe,

Thanks for your replay.
Rotring Tikky is the substitute for the Xenox I'm using that was discontinued in 2007, so I think we are using the same pen, and yes, that ink is not waterproof.
Thanks for the tip on the Platinum Carbon Ink. Do you have any suggestion regarding the pen, considering that I want it for drawing?

Cheers

Hello Zoe,

News on waterproof ink :-)

I visited a Portuguese store that allowed me to try every single disposable waterproof pen for sketching. After the test I can garantee you that Sakura PIGMA Micro are waterproof :-)
I bought a set of those and I am very happy. The brush one needs a second to dry, but is waterproof anyway.

Cheers

Thanks Jorge for your update.

I found another pen that is waterproof, Arline. I believe it is sold internationally as I found it in the US and UK after seeing the work of several Asian and European artists.

Rapidograph drafting pens are excellent and are 100% waterproof.

I found the Bic Intensity fine pt. fiber pens are good with w/c. they say they are w/p and so far have worked for me. Found at Staples.
