Wichita, Kansas, USA [RESULTS]

Post by CrowTalk »

Wichita Sketchers:
Let's meet at the Sedgwick County Zoo at 1:00 PM for an afternoon of sketching. If it's hot, we can sketch inside some of the exhibits. (On the other hand, animals trying to sleep away the heat would be very cooperative models.) Let's plan to meet near the main entrance between 1 and 1:15. If you are new to Wichita sketchcrawls, you can recognize the group by the art supplies we'll be carrying.
All are invited to participate. See you there! Mary

Wichita sketchers spent a hot (102 F), enjoyable afternoon at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Fortunately, the zoo provides water sprays for both animals and humans to cool off in. If you want to check out the website for the zoo, please see http://www.scz.org

Near the entrance to the zoo is a pond where flamingos gather.

Sarah also sketched the flamingosImageImage

One of the good things about sketching at the zoo is we got to learn more about the animals while observing them. A zookeeper talked to us about the Humboldt penguins at the zoo. Mary sketched a penguin and two other kinds of birds that live in the penguin exhibit.

One of the exhibits at the zoo is a tropical jungle where birds and other animals are free to roam the exhibit. Diana drew some of the plants in the exhibit.

Richard sketched a scarlet macaw in the exhibit. ImageImage
We learned that the two scarlet macaws in the zoo jungle are named "Mac" and "Cheese." Mac is blind and uses his beak a lot to help him move around the jungle. Mary sketched Mac and Cheese, the macaws, as well as one of the giraffes.

The river otters were awake and playing when Sarah dropped by, so she was able to sketch an otter.Image

Both Richard and Diana made sketches of the flamingos.

Glenn enjoyed taking many photographs at the zoo, and maybe he will post a few more shots here later. Image

It was a good afternoon at the zoo, and we enjoyed participating in the Worldwide Sketchcrawl with our Wichita "Sketch and Sweat."
