Last Saturday, for the 61st World Wide SketchCrawl, our Seoul urban sketchers met at open square in front of Sewoon Plaza building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Sewoon Shopping Center is the most famous electronics shopping area located between Jongno 3-ga and Toegyero 3-ga, which was well-known place as a symbol of the modernization of the electronics industry from the 1960s. But the Sewoon Shopping mall complex became old and deteriorated over the years, it has been remodeled from time to time as the need arises. Recently, The Dasi Sewoon Project transformed the old Sewoon Shopping Center into a hub of new industry through urban regeneration.
It was so fine weather for sketching the newly renovated Sewoon Shopping Mall. I was impressed by the mixture of old and new buildings under the colorful urban skyline, walking along the three-story overhead pedestrian bridge between Sewoon Shopping Center and Daelim Shopping Center, which provided us with various attractions. Furthermore, Sewoon Plaza rooftop garden on the 9th floor is the best place to sketch colorful panoramic scenes of Seoul in all directions. I sketched the various scenes spread out horizontally before my eyes. While sketching the urbanscapes along the high-level pedestrian bridge and the rooftop garden, I experienced the diverse feeling of different eye level, new perspectives, free spaces from the crowds and vehicles, and so on. It was a pleasant and valuable sketch time in the bustling downtown Seoul.

Sewoon Shopping Center has become the hot place for the visitors, students, and the urban sketchers to drop in in order to see how the urban renovation to change the scenery not hurting the original structure on a large scale. We could enjoy better environment to appreciate the beautiful scene on 9th rooftop.

At first I captured the old scenery of the area around the building remembering the previous shape covered by big awning materials. On the bridge connecting two shopping malls I sketched the bottom one. The air was not bad because it was a weekend and most of the stores on both streets were close. The weather was really good.

Thank you all!

This is a place that has been reopened as a city renewal project in Seoul.
I went up to the rooftop on the 9th floor and sketched Jongno with high and new buildings and old roofs.
And I watched the Cheonggyecheon on the 3 rd floor connecting bridge and drew it
There was a very good place to sketch urban.

Hi BH and friends: Thanks for checking our (late again!) sketches...

It's interesting to see how archiartist develops an artwork in the pencil-only sketches.

Eun jong Kang's bright primary colors are Refreshing!

And BH's watercolors are as sweet as ever.

Today I particularly enjoyed jecschoi's sketches with contrasts of Black/white with color, architecture with nature, city with county...
:D

Thanks gain for your exuberant support, BH! :!:

This is a view of Bukhansan mountain that surrounds Seoul city
and the roof of an old shopping mall you have seen from Seun Sangga,
which is in the middle of redevelopment.
