Are you up for meeting only at the end of the day for this sketchcrawl?

Yes, let's try it!

Hi All, personally I really like the bonding time taken at the beginning of the crawl and the fact that we're all keeping within a certain, but broad topic. It makes for more interesting share time at the end to discover how each person saw the area of coverage and to compare, if we're lucky, how more than one person may have handled the same subject. Also, it's difficult to stick with the crawl for the whole day and meeting up in the start of the day gives a stronger focus for the activity. Otherwise, some could abandon the "crawl" activity of drawing on that day and just waltz in at the end with drawings they've made over the past 6 months.

As for the stress the group imposes on converging on one wait-person or establishment: I've participated in pub crawls in SF - whole day and evening affairs - with groups in excess of 50 people. They are organized at the start with a route for each participant, but more importantly, they advise the venues many days in advance of their arrival, tell them about the crawl, how many people are expected to show up, how much money they can expect to make from the group, and how long it will be there. Then the venue can staff up or prepare accordingly. They really appreciate the heads up and we've never been dissappointed. It's been going on that way for 27 years in SF.

That's just my two cents. I look forward to seeing you all again on the 10th.

I agree with marty. The best part of the crawl is seeing other sketchers throughout the day and sharing sketches of the same area at the end of the day.

I met Enrico at APE (and bought all his fabulous books), but I don't know anyone else who sketches outdoors, except my daughter. I'd love to meet at least a few people somewhere in SF, around 2 pm or so. As for the end of the day, the de Young is open until 5:15 pm, but the cafe closes at 4:30, when did you want to meet?

Well I hear your issues with this idea ... but it is a little experiment and it seems the majority are into trying it.
Keep also in mind this is a one time thing we are talking about I am not suggesting to change the format in any stable way ...

But here's what we could do ... for those of you who really want to meet and crawl in a group we should have a meeting point in the morning for the rest who are gonna try this semi-solo crawl we can just all meet at the end of the day.
Another point, nothing prevents you from meeting a few friends and crawling with them, so perhaps we can end up with some artists trying the solo marathon, some in smaller groups and some in a larger group .... what do you say?

Quilnut- thanks for checking the hours of the DeYoung cafe.

Unless someone has some other good place in mind ... perhaps we should say general meeting and sketchbook sharing at 4pm at the DeYoung cafe?

as far as the crawlers meeting in the morning, any idea of where you want to meet?

Personally, I prefer the group activity but I am willing to experiment. I guess that makes me SketchcrawlCurious.

I have an idea. How about we all meet at one location - just to check in...? Then those that want to do the solo crawl can leave or smaller groups (or solos) can break off to go crawling. Then, we can all (solo AND group crawlers) meet at the DeYoung at 4 pm to share adventures... Will that work?

We could all meet at the Ferry Building - in front of the main entrance, at the foot of Market St. Then go off on our separate journeys... eventually landing at the DeYoung. That's my suggestion.

Enrico, I think it'll be a great idea. Can we get a vote up for a place to meet up? I'd like to plan out my route to the destination(meeting place). Thanks!!! See you all at the sketchcrawl. Looking forward to everyone's sketches. Ciao! :o :D

I think convening at the end is a good idea! Unfortunately, I can't do it this time around. I will be around drawing during the day.

I think the morning meeting will not be in any way mandatory.
Who wants to meet in the am certainly can, anyone else can do their own solo crawl wherever one might want then meet at 4pm at the DeYoung.
I bet this way we'll discover some nice places that we might want to do a full-on group crawl later this year ...

is there a consensus toward the Ferry Building as a meeting point in the am ?
I can put a poll up if anyone else has some other ideas for that meeting ...

An optional meeting at the Ferry Building in the morning the meeting up at 4pm at the DeYoung sounds good to me.

Meeting at the Ferry Bldg in the morning is great with me - also the final get together at the De Young Cafe at 4pm. I'll check back, too, for final concensus from the group. Looking forward to it!

Hello - this will be my first Crawl so I will try to meet up at the Ferry Building in the morning. I'm planning on sketching with an old friend anyway so I'm easy as far as the group vs. solo thing goes. Meeting at 4pm to share sketches and stories sounds good. I look forward to meeting everyone Saturday!

Sounds good. What would be the approximate morning meeting time at the Ferry Building?

I plan on being there at 10 am. Earlier is better, otherwise it gets too hectic I think. Meet up, say 'hi', then go about our merry way. If a group shows up, we can meet and greet for about 1/2 hour then disburse around 10:30 am. Sounds good?
