Los Angeles, California

Post by davidnavas »

Hi Angelenos
Are you ready for a non stop Los Angeles drawing marathon the next SketchCrawl on October 16th ???
If so...suggest places to sketch and let's have fun !!!
I've been in LA for just a year so I am probably missing dozens of hidden places so I am totally open to explore the city.
I suggest meeting at Barsdall Park, walk down to Los Feliz, up to Griffith Park and after walk to Hollywood or Silverlake.

Let's sketch LA !!
Cheers:)

I don't think we've been to Barnsdall Park yet, so that might be a fun place to go!

So far, we've sketched at places listed below. We can go back to some favorites, or choose a new location:

- Old Town Pasadena
- Travel Town in Griffith Park
- Union Station/Olvera Street
- Chinatown/Little Tokyo
- Los Angeles Central Library
- Grand Central Market/Bradbury Building
- The Grove/Farmer's Market
- Redondo Beach Pier
- The Americana in Glendale
- Echo Park
- Santa Monica Pier
- Koreatown
- Hollywood & Highland

Other places that has been suggested before are:

- Greystone Mansion

-Catalina Verdugo Adobe
2211 Bonita Drive
Glendale, CA 91208

- Adamson House

- Universal City Walk
Free parking at the Metro station down the hill. Free shuttle take you to city walk.

- Gamble House

- Queen Mary, Long Beach

-The Griffith Observatory

Hi Shiho
Thanks for posting all these places.
Since I've been in LA for just more than one year and I live in Los Feliz I decided to change my sketch plan and take the bus and go to more funky places.

My new idea is to take the bus from Hollywood to Venice Beach early in the morning and draw people in the Boardwalk for the whole day.

Let me know if you like the plan.

Best,

David

Sketching in Venice boardwalk sounds fun - I'm up for it!

And I just found out today that this month (October) is designated as a month to celebrate drawing in Los Angeles! Woo hoo!

Venice Beach sounds good! Shall we meet at the end of W Washington Blvd? It's the one that ends/turns into the Venice Pier.
What times?

The day is pretty much planned but where do you guys want to meet up. There is that whole section of Venice with a lot going on (I'm referring to the map linked to the skate park below) but I am having trouble picking one specific spot. I know personally I'm eying that skate park pretty hard but I'm probably the only one so just give me some feedback so we can get all this fun finalized! :D
-----------------------------------

All the info below is copy and pasted from the SketchCrawl Facebook Event Page
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1 ... 19&index=1

WHERE: Venice!
* the Skate Park (Google Satellite view of Skate Park http://tiny.cc/5re30)
* Muscle beach
* the Shops should be pretty lively since it's Saturday
* People laying and congregating on every patch of grass
* + you can't forget about the tourists

MEET UP:
---Suggestions?

PARKING:
Street parking can be hard to find so be safe and bring cash
(I would recommend trying to carpool if possible)
Additional Parking and Pricing info

TIME:
11AM to 4PM
No Rules, get there as early as you want, stay as late as you want, come and go as you please. Maybe head for dinner and share sketches after.
(I thought 10am but then figured 11 would be best for people who are going to have to drive a bit to get there )

Hi all

I'll take the bus to Venice early in the morning to warm up a little bit :) I'll be there around 11am.
Please decide a place to meet and I'll be there. I am not familiar with the area. I've been at Venice just a couple of times.
see you!!

OK, Let's meet at 11am at Venice Bl. & Ocean Front Walk (where Venice Blvd. ends at the beach) since most of sketchable areas like skate park, graffiti wall, muscle beach, and Venice Beach Freak Show are nearby. There are paid lots nearby and street parking (on Pacific and some meters on Venice - read the signs carefully!), and I believe it's pretty close to public transportation. We can migrate back down south and walk toward Washington Blvd. after sketching for a sit-down meal; in addition there should be plenty of other food options like street vendors with fresh fruit, homemade ice cream shop, etc. Once you park your car, all the areas mentioned are within walking distance - you can sketchcrawl to your heart's content!

I'll be riding my bike there from Santa Monica - see y'all soon!
