Six sketchers from the D.C. area met at the National Zoo. The weather was just right for a crawl.
I started off with a quick sketch of zoo visitors approaching the visitor center:
We then headed over to the big cats area, where we found some nice and lazy (and nearly motionless) subjects to draw:
A quick visit with the Orangutans, who were a little more lively:
We thought the elephants would make good subjects, but they actually moved around quite a bit. You had to act fast to capture them:
And finally a trip through the bird house:
We then stopped for wonton soup in Woodley Park on the way out. All in all, a good day.
