Future of sketchcrawl.com

Post by HarryM »

I imagine when Enrico created this site in 2004 with a 14 year expiration date, he probably didn't expect it to actually last until 2018. But it did, and we almost lost it for good. Thank goodness someone managed to renew it.

BUT - the renewal is only for one year, due again to expire in Oct, 2019. Question - are any of the Administrators planning to extend the domain's life? Is it a question of money? (I imagine there is a cost involved in maintaining a domain name). If that is the case, I would think there are enough users who would be willing to contribute something in order to see the site continue.

Anyway, I really would like to know what future plans may be. This site has become important, not only as a gathering spot for sketchers around the world, but also as a tool for recruiting new sketchers locally. Thanks.

Thank you for your concern. Rest assured that we will continue to renew the domain. I have been hosting the domain/site for 11yrs and do not plan to stop any time soon either.

What we will be needing in the near future is a moderator or two to help keep the site clean of spam. Please send me a PM if you would be interested in helping out.

Thank you
Gustavo

That's good to know Gustavo. Thank you for this information.
As a matter of fact, I feel that the global activity is much lower than a few years ago, and this all over the world except maybe in my own country, France, I don't understand why...

A lot of people (me included) gave up on it about 18 months ago when the dates were not being announced until the last minute. It made it impossible to arrange anything and give people enough notice. I think it did Sketchcrawl a lot of damage.
