Leeroy,

Thank you very much for trying to help me out with the imaging problems. Hummm ... I will try to figure out other site to load the images. For now, I guess I will have to use a web-link instead.

Here are the direct links:

Paintmonster - thanks for the feedback. I would love to visit Sapporo some day!!

Lee-Roy - Your sketches of your hood really has that "little pocket of residential area in Hollywood" feel. Really nice. We should both try to make it to the next LA crawl!

Ice Cream Monster - I like the monotone wheel drawing. It has a abstract quality, and your pen work goes well with it. I also like your choice of comp for part2 - I've been to travel town before, and it's fun to see what other people focus on.

Our first Sketchcrawl

Post by Jawn Lim »

Hi Everyone at SketchCrawl,

This was our first sketchCrawl and we totally enjoyed it! I was crawling along with me ONE sketch and spent most of the time crawling around and spying on how other people sketched. My wife, Crystal did one sketch of the Carnation truck as well. :P

I want to give a shout out to John "Sankam" Scharmen for taking the time to grace the FIRST page of my FIRST Guest Sketchbook. He drew the underbelly of a train. It looks rather SCI-FI in geometry! THANK YOU SO MUCH JOHN!

See you guys at the next sketchCrawl!

Please visit this link for the sketches.

I am trying to figure out a way to post the images. Sigh...

HELLO Everyone!

Jim Mortensen --- I know I am really slow but was the 4th Sketch you did on this forum of me and Alina? I must say, you captured the proportions very well! I now look like I am 2 times the size of our Ice-Cream Monster friend! HAHAHA! Great Job on the Sketches. How did you do them all so quickly??? Do check out the evil sketch that Alina did of me, my wife and my friend winston. No thanks to the proportion hint, you can guess which one is me. http://alinanimation.blogspot.com/2007/ ... -deal.html

Leeroy --- Hey! I really like your http://flickr.com/photos/artandstory/424723303 Sketch on the right. Love the framing and values. Just enough to tell the story. Please join us the next time!

Sankam --- thank you so much for sketching for me on my guestbook.

Alina --- Thanks for organizing this! So you are (unofficially) designated the Chief Executive Organizer for SketchCrawl LA OK?
Please feel free to visit and leave your comments on my blog!

Here's the picture I did in Jawn's sketchbook. I'm sooo glad I didn't seriously blow it. Thanks for entrusting me with a blank sketchbook, Jawn! Better luck next time. ;)

Alina: troubleshooting suggestions for posting your images-- First, everything is case-sensitive. Second, you need the http:// at the beginning of the location. Otherwise, the problem might be that your web host does not allow direct hotlinking from other sites. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, for your comments and invitations to join next time. However, I will be doing sketchcrawl 14 from New York City. Actually, I'm pretty excited about that. Just a visit, though, so I imagine I will be in LA for SC15 (that's SketchCrawl 15).

Sankam - No you did not blow it. That's great. Like how you left out color in whole areas, with just some accents here and there. I think my tendency would be to fill everything in. This is fresher and provides more contrast.

Thanks Leeroy. If I had had more time, I probably would have put a wash across the whole thing to bring the values down (the car was completely in shadow). But in this case I think running out of time saved the picture by preserving a focus.

wonderful colouring, Sankam and thanks for sharing it here, too

and akiko, I really like the second last one, besides the others, most! wonderful shades and contrast

agree with leeroy: Blogspot sometimes makes trouble bringingpcitures over here. This time, Alina, I hope it worked. Wonderful trains and rails you whimsically let flow on your paper, again!!

... maybe if you click on the picture in your blog first, then let it show up, and right click, to get the picture's address and copy it, it might work - I can now see you images in this post, at least ...

March, 28 2007 .. well today I can just see some icons. And if rightclick on 'em I can only download and watch them ... ergh ..

Sketchcrawl!

Here's my take on Travel Town - I never knew it existed even though I lived in L.A. most of my life! There's something romantic about trains...a transport to another world that feels more "connected" to the changing scenery than planes that flies over endless expanse of sky and clouds....
