We had a great and productive SketchCrawl day on and around the Berkeley campus. A little under thirty folks started out the day despite an ominous grey cover during the morning. Luckily, inclement weather didn't persist, and the sky cleared by noon!
Most SketchCrawlers began with the big T-Rex, then meandered along Strawberry Creeks, drawing redwood trees, neat architecture and feisty squirrels along the way. Those of us who lasted till the afternoon sketched in the Hearst Anthropology Museum, festive Telegraph Avenue, and finally wrapped up at a nearby cafe.
I'll be putting up pictures and scans in a little bit...

My sketches
What a great day it was in Berkeley! I arrived slightly late to my first sketchcrawl, but found the group easily enough. In spite of being too hungry to think straight, I got right to work on the Pterodactyl and T-Rex...
Then, I ran over to one of the cafes on Bancroft, and sketched this while I waited for my lunch. Did I mention it was a really nice day?
Once that was taken care of, I reconnected with the group at the Campanile Tower where we checked each others stuff out and posed for photos. Next, I took a shot at South Hall:
Later, I found out that is the building all the architecture students are sent out to sketch in their first year here -- there are probably thousands of these buggers in people's sketch collections all over the earth. How dreary is that? But it was a nice day, and I had a chance to look closely at a very eccentric building.
Anyway, after I finished tormenting myself with all theat gingerbread, I moved on to the Anthropological Museum, where I sketched this classical head with a missing nose.
We were ushered out at 4:30 when it closed, so I drew the view out to the cafe across the street where we planned to meet for the final review of our books.
I think I was the oldest person on this sketchcrawl -- I was a little concerned that no one would want to be caught in my company, but this was not the case at all. I met lots of great art nerds just like me.

Thanks, everyone for the comments.donnam wrote: rebecca-that south hall sketch must have taken a while-good work
donnam, that South Hall drawing took about 35 minutes, but it felt like two hours!
Peter Pen, the Pterodactyl skull really had that raised ring shaped bone structure in the eye socket. I think that was bone, anyway. It was fascinating -- putting it in the drawing made it look alive.

What a day! Fabulous weather and a great group of friendly sketchers. I had forgotten how nice the Berkeley campus can be.
It was great to met up with everyone and share our work at the end of the day. See you at SC14!
