NEW YORK CITY, NY - USA - [RESULTS]
We had gorgeous weather in New York for the SketchCrawl. A small group of people met up on Governors Island, a short ferry ride away from Manhattan/Brooklyn. Thanks to sunilo for organizing the meeting point.
Here are my sketches from the day; hope to see the others post as well!
Before heading down to the island, I stopped at Republic at Union Square for a quick lunch. Sketched the scene looking north toward 18th Street while waiting for food:
Then I headed down to the ferry terminal to catch the boat to Governors Island. Rode with a crowd of bicyclists eager to take their wheels out to the car-free paths on the island:
On the island, sketched these large sculptures near the tents set up for the New Island Festival-related events:
I then set up my stool in a shady area near Castle Williams and sketched the building and the skyline:
As I sat on the ferry waiting to go back to Manhattan, I did a quick sketch of the huge red structures above the docks:
(Sketches done with Lamy Safari and Pilot Varsity pens using Noodler's ink in Lexington Gray; colored with watercolors.)
All in all, a wonderful SketchCrawl day!

Nice watercolours! I like how you've captured the busyness in the first drawings, also the sculptures one with all the trees greenery on the back!

Wonderful! :) wonderful line, energy and color...

Thanks, everyone!
briantbear: Yes, the trees did take some time -- getting the right "greens" for trees and plants in watercolor is something that I am trying to work on, as it's a challenge for me.

It was nice to meet everybody at Governor's Island this Saturday. I hope everybody enjoyed sketching (or at least enjoyed the art festival. I didn't have the most productive Crawl, but here's a one drawing from the art festival.

Lovely work from Governer's Island! Sumacm, great depth to your shadows on the building. It's also cool to see two different artists' takes on the same scene.
Wish I had time to join you there, but I ended up with a few pages done in Flushing Meadows/Corona Park in Queens with a handful of people who ventured out. We hung out near the Unisphere and other remnants of the World's Fair. These were done with a Pilot V-ball pen in my tiny moleskine wanna-be sketchbook. We also checked out the cool scale model of the 5 boroughs in the Panorama exhibit at the Queens Museum.
