Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Hi Everyone,
Since Shiho will be at the USk Symposium in Santo Domingo on Saturday, July 14, and many of you may be going to Comic-Con...I want to let you know that there will be a Los Angeles SketchCrawl for anyone in town and interested!
Where would you like to go? I'd like to suggest the Los Angeles County Museum of Art/La Brea Tarpits...there's lots to see on the grounds, including the newly installed "Levitated Mass", and there will be music that evening starting at 5 pm...

Some other possibilities...the Santa Monica Pier, Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax...or other suggestions?

Hi Shiho, happy to do it! Hope there's some sketchers in town for this!
Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Hi Everyone,
Ok, let's plan on going the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and La Brea tar pits--there certainly will be lots to see and draw. Let's plan on meeting at 11am in the Central Court of the museum (the old plaza area between Hammer and Ahmanson buildings). There should still be some interesting installations and of course lots of people. From there, we could check out the new Levitated Mass installation, and then the tar pits...or see what everyone wants to do!
Here again is visitor info for LACMA: http://www.lacma.org/visit/plan-your-visit
and here's info for the George C. Page and tar pits: http://www.tarpits.org/visit
Parking in the main lot off of 6th St. just east of Fairfax is $10. There's also parking across the street in a lot at Wilshire and Spaulding Ave. I believe that street parking is for limited time.
Here are online maps for LACMA and tar pits area grounds:

I look forward to seeing and sketching with you!

Hi Everyone,
Looking forward to see who can make it tomorrow! If you enter LACMA by the street lamps at the main entrance, you'll see a stairway through the sculpture garden up to the Central Court (the old main plaza). You don't go through the museum that way.

Hi Virginia,
I'd love to join the Sketchcrawl tomorrow. I'll see you there. Looking forward to seeing the levitating mass.

Thanks for posting these, Christopher, wonderful! I agree, we had a great group, even if not so large this time. Sorry I didn't quite get those feet holding up the rock!

Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Hi guys,
Sorry I couldn't make it out to LACMA with everyone else, but I managed to sketch a bit from Burbank's Barnes and Noble bookstore. It was crazy hot here, so couldn't walk around too much. Looks like the LA crew had some fun with that new rock that LACMA got Anyways, I'm uploading my sketches. Hope to see you guys for the next Sketchcrawl!

Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Thanks for organizing, Virginia! Great to see your sketches, monking and ValiantLlana! Would love to join you next time - or even have an "unofficial" sketchcrawl sooner than the next one!
Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
tons of fun!! looking forward to seeing everyone next time.
Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Hi ValiantLlama, hope to see you next time! Great sketches--you certainly got the heat across...especially with the melting tree!
Hi Shiho, my pleasure, I look forward to sketching with you again too, and to seeing your Santo Domingo sketches! The photos from the Symposium look like everyone is hot and a bit sweaty, but having a fantastic time!
Hi CJ, it was really great to meet you--and you were an inspiration to the group--those are beautiful sketches!
I've made a SketchCrawl post on Urban Sketchers, so I'll post here this evening...

I love the diversity of your fabulous results and each interpretation. It is a real pleasure to visit
Re: Los Angeles, CA SketchCrawl
Wonderful results, all! And what a strange rock!
Maybe I've been LACMA some years ago, but I didn't see such rock.
I enjoyed your sketches very much. Thanks for sharing.
