very cool ... it was about time! I remember emailing Moleskine, a year ago or so ... lamenting their water unfriendly papers ...
Anyway ... I bought a new Moleskine watercolor sketchbook too ...
did a sketch on it yesterday but haven't watercolored it yet ...
Not sure I like the perforated edges: it's nice that you can make the page
into a postcard, but it does get in the way if you're trying to do a sketch spanning the 2 pages ...
Also, wish the paper was less textured.
I'll let you know how it goes with the watercoloring ...
anyone out there liking the watercolor moleskine ?

I couldn't get your original link to work to the review and test. So I've done a little one of my own in case anyone is interested: http://makenart.blogspot.com/2010/07/sk ... -test.html

papier_et_encre...
Thanks so much for posting your test results. I use the Moleskine Watercolour books and was about to use Copic markers. I may now just stay with what I have been using... regular watercolour paint applied by brush, Derwent Watercolour pencils, Derwent Inktense. I also have Derwent Pastel pencils but have not used them in my sketch book. Your tests are a useful reference for me. Thanks again.

Re: Moleskine Watercolor Notebook Review and tests
I think Moleskines are awesome for some things. I think for other purposes they do not perform well. I know everybody loves Moleskines and we all buy them all the time, including myself. I think the sketchbooks and the watercolor books are probably the weakest products of the Moleskine books. The sketchbooks used to be excellent because the paper was much thicker, about a year and a half ago they changed them to much thinner sheets of paper, in my opinion taking away some of the nice qualities the sketchbooks had. I think the watercolor books are too expensive for 25% cotton and thin 90 lb paper. I do love the Moleskine design and the ruggedness of their products. I use Moleskine lined journals, and weekly/monthly planners, but for my drawing and painting I use other sketchbooks, which I believe are excellent in their quality and prices. Obviously that's just my opinion, I have been buying and using Moleskine for about 5 plus years now I have we'll over 20 but they haven't been my favorite for a while now. I hope this helps someone, somehow.
Re: Moleskine Watercolor Notebook Review and tests
I have seen but not yet bought / used a Moleskin because the German company Hahnemühle makes a simliar style book (which they call a Travel Journal) with (I think) better quality paper which can withstand watercolour. It has the flap pocket at the back and the elastic band, similar to a Moleskin has but is cheaper and sturdier. I use an A5 portrait size but it probably comes in some others, too. I don't know how available this is outside Germany but they have an English website. here is the link:
